Some 160 athletes are set to compete for Paris 2024 quota spots in sport climbing at the Olympic Qualifier Series 2024 (OQS), which begins with the first stage in Shanghai, People's Republic of China, from 16-19 May.
A total of 30 sport climbing quota spots can be obtained by athletes at OQS: 10 in each of the two Boulder & Lead events and five in each of the two Speed events.
At OQS, quotas will be obtained based on a points system. Climbers can earn a maximum of 100 points, with 50 points available to the winners in Shanghai, and another 50 in Budapest.
The OQS is the last stop on the qualifying pathway to Paris 2024 for sport climbers, with 30 quotas already secured* by athletes in the four events.
The final eight quota spots (four per gender) will be filled under the universality quota, making a total of 68 athletes competing in Paris.
*As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective teams at the Olympic Games, athletes' participation at Paris 2024 depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation. Click here to view the qualification system for each sport.
