Rising star Akama Rizu of Japan raised the competition bar to front the eight skaters through to the finals of the 2022 street skateboarding world championships in 2023 on Saturday (4 February).

The 14-year-old led the way into the best trick section after putting down the highest run score of the afternoon (86.42) before then returning two 80-plus point trick scores to seal her place at the top of the final eight.

Star Brazilian skater Rayssa Leal continued to defy the injury she sustained to her right wrist in training earlier in the week as she booked her place in tomorrow's showdown.

The 15-year-old Olympic silver medallist advances to tomorrow's final having put down the biggest trick score of the day. Her kickflip backside lipslide was duly rewarded with a 87.22 which also earned the approval gathered at the Aljada skate park.

Other Tokyo 2020 medallists Nishiya Momiji and Nakayama Funa progressed through in third and seventh respectively while 12-year-old Australian Chloe Covell continued to show why she is one to watch after finishing in fourth.

This week’s world championships is also doubling up as a Paris 2024 qualifier with Olympic World Skateboard Ranking (OWSR) points on offer based on the final results.

The women's finals will begin on Sunday 4 February at 16:40 (GST).
