Sha’Carri Richardson gets another chance this week to book her place on the global stage of track athletics.

The 23-year-old ran the fourth fastest time in history in the women's 100m at the Miranmar Invitational meet on 8 April and has consistently finished under 11 seconds this 2023 season.

These efforts were followed by her first Diamond League race victory on 5 May in Doha, and now Richardson hopes to solidify that success with victory at the 2023 USA Track and Field Championships, which will be held in Eugene, Oregon from 6 to 9 July.

Importantly, a podium finish in the women's 100m and 200m events will seal her place on the USA team for the 2023 World Athletics Championships.

The top three in each discipline at the USATF event - subject to having achieved the World Championship qualifying standard - will represent the U.S. in Budapest in August. Having missed last year's edition, Richardson would be especially keen to qualify.

At the U.S. Championships, Richardson is set to run in the women’s 100m on Friday, 6 July in a heat that also includes Tokyo 2020 finalist Teahna Daniels.

Relay world champion and Olympic Games silver medallist Aleia Hobbs will be running in the next heat, together with last year’s national champion Melissa Jefferson. She won the race with a time of 10.69, which is more than 0.10 seconds over the blazing, wind-assisted 10.57 Richardson ran in April.

The defending champion in the women's 200m, Abby Steiner, will also be on the track in Eugene to try and fend off Richardson, who has recently seen her best results in the distance since 2020. Richardson ran 22.07 in May, which is just 0.07 seconds off the personal best she set three years ago.
