Al-Nassr were provided with a massive boost after the signing of Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo at the beginning of this year. The club has its eyes set on winning the Saudi Pro League 2022-23 season, which will be its first title in four years.

The 38-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo, who has the most international goals, joined Al Nassr on a two-and-a-half-year contract, beginning on January 1, 2023. 

Al-Nassr last won the Saudi Pro League (SPL) in 2018-19 and are the second-most successful football club in the history of the competition with nine titles.

Defending champions Al-Hilal are the most successful side in the league, winning the trophy 18 times. The last three editions of SPL were also topped by Al-Hilal.

Both Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal are based out of the Saudi capital, Riyadh. 

However, it’s a five-way battle for the top spot this season as Al-Ittihad, Al-Shabab and Al-Taawoun are also in the fray, along with Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal. Watch Saudi Pro League live in India.

There are 16 teams competing in SPL 2022-23, which began on August 25 last year and ends on May 31, 2023. The winner will make it to the AFC Champions League group stage next season, while the bottom two are relegated to the second-tier, Saudi First Division League.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s team-mate Talisca and Al-Shabab’s Carlos Junior are among the leading goalscorers this season.

Former West Brom player Matheus Pereira, Moussa Marega, who played for Porto in Portugal and World Cup 2022 goalscorer Salem Al-Dawsari are the other big names plying their trade in the Saudi Pro League 2022-23.
