Mikaela Shiffrin has become the most successful alpine skier in World Cup history after surpassing Ingemar Stenmark’s record of 86 victories thanks to her slalom win in Are on Saturday (11 March).
The 27-year-old made her debut in the sport’s elite series on 11 March 2011, at the Spindleruv Mlyn giant slalom in Czech Republic, two days before turning 16.
Since then she has broken record after record, but what have been the victories that have marked her career so far? Here’s our selection.

20 December 2012: Slalom in Are, Sweden
One year after making her first podium in Lienz, Austria, a 17-year-old Shiffrin announced herself to the world by stunning home favourite Frida Hansdotter on the Olympia course. On the podium, along with the Swede and third-place finisher Tina Maze, a Santa Claus witnessed the first career win of the USA’s teen prodigy.

25 December 2014: Giant slalom in Soelden, Austria
The first GS win came on the Rettenbach in the traditional season-opener. In the second run, Shiffrin held on to her 0.09-second lead to finish tied first with local star Anna Fenninger.

28 November 2015: Slalom in Aspen, USA
Before the age of 21, Shiffrin was already an Olympic gold medallist and three-time slalom World Cup winner, but her dominance in her favourite discipline reached a new height in Aspen.
In the first of two events on home snow she beat runner-up Veronika Velez Zuzulova by a whopping 3.07 seconds, the largest winning margin in a women's slalom race in World Cup history.

2 December 2018: Super G in Lake Louise, Canada
On the slope where she made her first downhill podium just one year earlier, Shiffrin claimed her maiden victory in Super G, an event she had entered only seven times before.
The win made her the first skier, male or female, to win all six events in World Cup racing.

5 January 2019: Slalom in Zagreb, Croatia
In her record 2018-2019 season (17 victories), Shiffrin was crowned 'Snow Queen' for the fourth time clinching her seventh straight win in slalom and matching her personal winning streak in the discipline.

14 December 2020: Giant slalom in Courchevel, France
After over 300 days off the World Cup circuit following the sudden passing of her father Jeff, Shiffrin returned to the top step of the podium for the first time since January 2020.
Emotions ran high after she crossed the finish line as she let her feelings wash over her.
"It was a pretty incredible day, obviously, but I’m pretty sad. I mean, it’s a bit bittersweet," she said through tears after the race.

11 January 2022: Slalom in Schladming, Austria
On the slope where she took her first World Championship medal in 2013, Shiffrin produced a storming second run to beat rival Petra Vlhova and break Ingemar Stenmark's record with her 47th World Cup victory in a single discipline.

29 December 2022: Slalom in Semmering, Austria
Shiffrin completed a hat-trick of World Cup wins in the Austrian resort to clinch a record 50th slalom victory.
She finished in front of team-mate Paula Moltzan to make it the first time since 1971 that the US ski team went 1-2 in a women's World Cup slalom.

8 January 2023: Giant slalom in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia
Shiffrin bounced back from the previous day's disappointing sixth place and put down a dominant performance on the Podkoren 3 slope to equal Lindsey Vonn's women's record of 82 World Cup wins.

24 January 2023: Giant slalom in Kronplatz, Italy
Shiffrin eclipsed Vonn's record at a venue where she had historically struggled, collecting a rare DNF in 2018.
She then completed a remarkable GS sweep on the following day to claim World Cup victory number 85.
