Luka Doncic wrote his name in the NBA record books once again with a 60-point game on Tuesday (28 December).

It was the highest single-game score recorded by a Dallas player in their franchise history, and led the Mavericks to a comeback win in overtime over the New York Knicks on a night of high drama.

Tokyo 2020 Olympian Doncic finished with 60 points, 21 rebounds, and 10 assists - the first 60-20-10 game ever in the world's top men's basketball competition.

Dallas had trailed by 9 points with 26.8 seconds remaining. As part of a dramatic finale, the 23-year-old forced overtime by deliberately missing a free-throw and collected the rebound to tie the scores at 115-115 with 1 second remaining. Dallas eventually won 126-121.

Reactions to Doncic's record night

"I'm tired as hell" was Doncic's immediate reaction after the game.

A host of past and present NBA players took to social media in praise of the Slovenian's performance.

"It’ll be another statue in Dallas… Luka is like that!" posted Dream Team Olympic gold medallist Kevin Garnett.

Kevin Durant likened Doncic's performance to a video game, saying "That was a MyCareer type performance from Luka tonight.

Dallas teammate Chris Wood posted on twitter that he would be "sending u a GOAT to yo farm my boy..."

While Mavs owner Mark Cuban said, "We are watching greatness @luka7doncic I've never seen anything like that ever," and suggesting that Doncic's celebration dance "deserves a name"

NBA statistics smashed by Doncic

Doncic's 60 points is his career high, and surpassed Dirk Nowitzki’s 53 to lead the charts for highest score by a Dallas player.

It's the 52nd triple double of his career, and 21 rebounds is also a career high for Doncic.

James Harden is the only other player to have posted a 60-point triple double. His effort for the Rockets in 2018 included 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Doncic is the first to do it with 20+ rebounds.
