The best male all-round skier in the world will be crowned on Tuesday (7 February) during the men's combined event at the 2023 FIS Alpine Ski World Championships.
The race is divided in two runs (a Super G followed by a slalom) with gold being awarded to the skier with the fastest aggregate time. This discipline hasn't featured in the World Cup for three consecutive seasons but has been kept in the programme at both Worlds and Winter Olympics.
Men's combined: Medal Favourites
Alexis Pinturault (FRA): The 31-year-old has won four World Cup globes in this event from 2016 to 2020, and at the last two worlds claimed a gold and a silver, respectively. Pinturault, who's also a 2018 Olympic silver medallist in combined, is eager to impress in Courchevel, the ski resort where he grew up.
Marco Schwarz (AUT): The defending champion was silver medallist in the event at Are 2019 and has collected one of his four World Cup wins in this discipline.
Johannes Strolz (AUT): The slalom specialist was the surprise gold medallist at Beijing 2022, where he recorded the fourth time in Super G before being the fastest in his favourite discipline.
James 'Jack' Crawford (CAN): After finishing just outside the podium in Cortina, the Canadian speedster reedemed himself one year later in Beijing by claiming combined bronze at the last Winter Olympics.
Loic Meillard (SUI): The 2021 world bronze medallist is a strong slalom skier (four career podiums in World Cup) and has finished third at the Super G in Bormio, Italy earlier this season.
Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (NOR): The Attacking Vikings star knows how to tackle the challenging 'L'Eclipse' course (he was fourth in both the Downhill and Super G at the World Cup Finals), but can he repeat the slalom performance that earned him combined silver at Beijing 2022?
