Double Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin is the headliner of the 2023 FIS Alpine Ski World Championships, which take place from 6 to 19 February 2023 in the Savoyard resorts of Courchevel and Meribel.

The American won't be able to reach or surpass Ingemar Stenmark's mark in France because victories at the Worlds don't count toward her World Cup total but she can still make history by becoming the most decorated skier in the biennial competition.

Since her debut in 2013, Shiffrin has collected 11 medals (including six golds) from 13 races at the World Championships, making the podium in each of her last 10 events.

She's now tied in second place in the women's all-time medal list behind Germany's Christl Cranz with 15 (when the competition was held annually) and if we consider the modern era (post-World War II) only France's Marielle Goitschel and Sweden's Anja Parson won more golds (seven).

Shiffrin is expected to compete in four of the six individual events held in France: Combined (6 February), Super G (8 February), giant slalom (16 February) and slalom (18 February).

Mikaela Shiffrin's Schedule at the 2023 Alpine Ski World Championships

Shiffrin recently hinted that she won't race the downhill, a race she has never entered at the Worlds.

She's not expected to compete in the individual parallel event either.

What records can Mikaela Shiffrin break at the 2023 FIS Alpine Ski World Championships?

The American is the only skier to have won gold medals at five consecutive worlds and she can extend her record.

In France she has the opportunity to become the competition's most decorated skier, male or female, in the modern era if she steps on the podium at least twice: in that case she would overtake Norwegian legend Kjetil Andre Aamodt with 12 medals.
