Katie Ledecky dominates womens' 400m free at TYR Pro Swim Series in Knoxville - results

The seven-time Olympic champion was more than eight seconds ahead of second place in the event

Olympic gold medallist Katie Ledecky was eight seconds clear of her closest competitor Friday (13 January) during the women's 400m freeestyle at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Knoxville, Tenn.

She touched the wall at 4:00.20, with Bella Sims well behind at 4:08.83. Third place was Katie Grimes (4:09.47).

World silver medallist Grimes won the night's opening race, the women's 200m butterfly with a time of 2:09.58 while Chase Kalisz (1:56.40) grabbed the top spot in the men's race.

The women's 50m free saw Abbey Weitzeil clock a 24.74 for the win, followed by Erika Brown (24.94), followed by 2016 Olympic 100m free champion Simone Manuel (25:19). David Curtiss won the men's 50m free with a 21.97 time.

Four-time Olympic medallist Kylie Masse of Canada picked up the women's 100m backstroke (59.43), a day after taking the 50m back crown. Hunter Armstrong's 52.68 took the men's 100m back.

Mona McSharry won her second race in two days with a 2:26.34 in the women's 200m breaststroke while Lyubomir Epitropov touched the wall in 2:12.15 for the men's title.

In the women's 50m butterfly final, Weitzeil picked up her second title of the night, while Ryan Held (2:12.15) was the men's champion.

Two-time Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Bobby Finke finished third in the men's 400m free, the final race of the night. Instead, it was Tunisia's Ahmed Hafnaoui, the reigning Olympic champion in the event that topped the standings. He swam a 3:47.41, with Kieran Smith in second (3:50.53). Finke's time was 3:52.09.

Competition in Knoxville wraps up Saturday with stars Ledecky, Manuel, Regan Smith, Masse, Ryan Murphy and Olivia Smoliga set to swim.
