India finish top at ISSF World Cup with 15 gold medals

India won 30 medals in all - 15 gold, nine silver and six bronze medals -- over the course of the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi. USA were next with four gold medals.

Trap Women's Team Medal Shot - Gold

Indian shooters capped off the final day of the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi with a gold each in the women’s and men’s Trap team events and a silver medal in the men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol team event.

In the men’s Trap team event, India’s Kynan Chenai, Prithviraj Tondaiman and Lakshay placed second in the qualifiers among a field of five teams. They qualified for the gold medal match against Slovakia’s Michal Slamka, Adrian Drobny and Filip Marinov.

Though the Slovaks outshot them by four points in the qualifying rounds, the Indians pulled off a clutch 6-4 win in the medal round to secure gold. Kazakhstan won the bronze.

Earlier, with only two teams competing in the women’s Trap team event, the Indian contingent of Rajeshwari Kumari, Manisha Keer and Shreyasi Singh were already assured a medal.

In the final against the Kazakhstan team featuring Mariya Dmitriyenko, Aizhan Dosmagambetova and Sarsenkul Rysbekova, the Indian women dominated 6-0 to claim top honours.

The men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol team event was also a two-team affair with India’s Vijayveer Sidhu, Gurpreet Singh and Adarsh Singh facing off against the American team consisting of Keith Sanderson, Jack Hobson Leverett III and Henry Turner Leverett.

The US shooters were on the mark in the finals and beat the Indians with a comfortable 10-2 margin to claim gold in the event. The Indian pistol shooters had to be content with the silver.

With the haul of three medals on the final day, India finished at the top of the medals table at the ISSF World Cup New Delhi. India finished with 30 medals - 15 gold, nine silver and six bronze to mark their most successful ISSF World Cup to date.

USA came second with eight medals - four gold, three silver and one bronze.
