Indian shooters extended India’s medals tally at the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi with a gold and a silver medal in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol mixed team event on Saturday.

The win took India’s gold medal count to 13 and total tally to 27 at the ongoing tournament at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range.

Vijayveer Sidhu and Tejaswini Sawant secured the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol mixed team event gold medal after beating fellow Indians Gurpreet Singh and Abhidnya Ashok Patil 9-1 in the finals.

With only two teams – both from India – participating, the 1-2 finish was assured for India in the event.

This was also Vijayveer’s second medal in as many days. The 18-year-old shooter won the silver medal in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol men’s individual event on Friday.

In the other event hosted on the day – Trap mixed team – the Indian team of Kynan Chenai and Shreyasi Singh narrowly lost out on the bronze medal.

Kynan and Shreyasi scored a total of 141 to place fourth after the qualifying rounds and set up a bronze medal match against Turkey’s Safiye Sariturk and Yavuz Ilnum.

The Turks, though, edged out the Indians 38-35 to secure the bronze.

Rajeshwari Singh and Lakshay Sheoran, the other Indian team participating in the Trap mixed team event, finished sixth in the qualifiers and couldn’t progress to the finals.

Italy’s Valerio Grazini and Alessia Iezzi clinched the Trap mixed team gold after overcoming Slovakia’s Adrian Drobny and Zuzana Rehak Stefecekova 39-36 in the gold medal final.
