ISSF World Cup: India women’s team beat Poland in 25m pistol to win 10th gold
Manu Bhaker, Rahi Sarnobat and Chinki Yadav teamed up to ensure yet another gold for India in New Delhi.
Manu Bhaker, Rahi Sarnobat and Chinki Yadav teamed up to win the 25m pistol women’s team event at the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi on Thursday.
The three Indian shooters – who formed the podium in the individual event on Wednesday – beat Poland’s Joanna Wawrzonowska, Julita Borek and Agnieszka Korejwo 17-7 in the final.
The Indian trio have all won quota places for the Tokyo Olympics.
The latest medal meant that Manu Bhaker has ended on the podium in each of the five events she has participated in at this ISSF World Cup, which includes three golds.
The final began competitively, with the teams splitting points in two of the first seven series, but India had taken a narrow 6-4 lead.
However, Manu Bhaker, Rahi Sarnobat and Chinki Yadav were dominant in the next series, winning five of them and ensured that they were the first to win 16 points in the final to claim gold.
It was the second gold medal in as many days for young Chinki Yadav, while London 2012 Olympian Rahi Sarnobat added to her silver from the individual event.
Meanwhile, Anjum Moudgil, Shreya Saksena and Gaayathri Nithyanadam won silver in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions women’s team event.
The Indian shooters lost 43-47 to Poland’s Aneta Stankiewicz, Aleksandra Szutko and Natalia Kochanska in the final.
The Indian team began well, but a few shots in the 8s in the fourth, fifth and sixth series proved to be their undoing as the Polish shooters consistently scored in the 9s and 10s to win gold.
India would have another medal in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions men’s team final but the event was postponed to Friday.
The home nation still leads the medals tally at the ISSF World Cup with 21 – 10 golds, six silvers and five bronze.
