ISSF Rifle/Pistol World Championship 2022: Esha Singh, Udhayveer Sidhu win gold medals in junior pistol events

Esha Singh won the junior women’s 25m pistol event. Udhayveer Sidhu bagged top honours in the junior men’s 25m pistol and standard pistol events.

Indian shooters Esha Singh and Udhayveer Sidhu won gold medals at the ISSF Rifle/Pistol World Championship 2022 in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday.

Esha Singh scored 29 hits out of 40 in the final to win gold in the junior women’s 25m pistol. China’s Sixuan Feng won the silver while Hungarian Miriam Jako took home the bronze medal.

The Indian shooter had finished fourth in qualifying and then second in the ranking match to qualify for the final.

The teenager was also part of the bronze-winning junior women’s 25m pistol team.

Meanwhile, Udhayveer Sidhu won two gold medals on the day - claiming the junior men’s 25m pistol and the junior men’s 25m standard pistol titles.

In the junior men’s 25m, Udhayveer Sidhu shot a total of 580 - 290 each in the precision and rapid fire stages - to top the charts.

Later in the day, Udhayveer Sidhu shot a total of 568 to win gold in the junior men’s 25m standard pistol. Compatriot Sameer shot 567 to claim the bronze medal in the event, finishing behind China’s silver-medallist Yangpan Liu.

India’s Tejaswini won the bronze medal in the junior women’s 25m standard pistol with a total of 557. China’s Sixuan Feng and Nan Zhao won the gold and silver medals respectively.

In other events, Sartaj Singh Tiwana finished eighth in the final of the junior men’s 50m rifle 3 positions while Shiva Narwal missed out on an Paris 2024 Olympics quota after coming home eighth in the men’s 10m air pistol final.

India are second on the medals table with seven medals - four gold and three bronze. China lead the tally with 16 medals.
