World champions India face hosts Sri Lanka in a three-match T20 cricket series, starting Saturday with all games to be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.

All three India vs Sri Lanka T20 matches are scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM IST. Live streaming and telecast are available in India.

The series marks Gautam Gambhir’s first assignment as the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. Gambhir was the mentor of the IPL 2024-winning Kolkata Knight Riders team in his previous stint.

Suryakumar Yadav, meanwhile, was appointed the Indian T20 captain for the Sri Lanka tour ahead of Hardik Pandya. Yadav, a two-time ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year, also led India to a 4-1 win over Australia in the T20 series last year.

Shubman Gill, who led the Indian cricket team to a series win over Zimbabwe earlier this month, will be the vice-captain.

Former world No. 1 T20 all-rounder Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj make their comebacks after missing out on the Zimbabwe series.

Indian cricket stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who retired from T20 internationals cricket after the T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 success, will feature later in the three-match ODI series.

Sri Lanka have also announced a new captain. Charith Asalanka will lead the hosts in the IND vs SL T20 2024 series after Wanindu Hasaranga stepped aside from the role following the T20 World Cup in June.

Asalanka led Sri Lanka in two T20 matches against Bangladesh earlier this year, winning once and losing the other.

Veteran wicket-keeper Dinesh Chandimal, meanwhile, is set to play his first T20I match since February 2022.

While pacer Nuwan Thushara broke a finger, fellow fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera is suffering from bronchitis and a respiratory infection. The duo have pulled out of the series with Dilshan Madushanka and Asitha Fernando rostered as their replacements.

In men’s T20 internationals, India have won 19 of their 29 matches against Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan men’s cricket team has registered nine victories while one match ended without a result.

The two teams last met in January last year at Rajkot. With an unbeaten 51-ball 112, Suryakumar Yadav headlined India’s 91-run win against Sri Lanka to help the Men in Blue seal the three-match series 2-1.
