In their first home assignment of the 2024 cricket season, world No. 1 India will take on Afghanistan in a three-match T20 international series starting Thursday.
Mohali will host the first India vs Afghanistan T20 cricket match. Indore will be the venue for the second tie while the final match will be played in Bengaluru. Live streaming and live telecast of all three IND vs AFG T20 matches will be available in India.
Rohit Sharma will take over as India’s T20 captain for the series against Afghanistan. Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav, the two players who have led India in Sharma’s absence in the past year, are unavailable due to injury. Virat Kohli is also set to return to the Indian men's T20 cricket team.
Kohli and Sharma last played a T20I for India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in November 2022. Both players chose to focus on the longer formats for the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup in 2023.
Afghanistan, world No. 10, will be led by Ibrahim Zadran. Spinner Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s regular T20 captain, was named in the squad but will not play as he is still recovering from a recent back surgery.
Following the T20I series against Afghanistan, India will host England in a five-match Test series. It will be India’s last international engagement of this year before the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA and West Indies in June.
