How to watch Mikaela Shiffrin try to tie - or even break - Ingemar Stenmark's World Cup wins record in Åre
The five-time overall title winner is one win away from the all-time mark and could set a new record in the place where she earned her first World Cup victory in December 2012. Here's how to follow the action live.
Mikaela Shiffrin resumes her chase for the all-time alpine skiing World Cup wins record this weekend in Åre, Sweden, where she claimed her first World Cup victory (Slalom on 20 December 2012) 11 years ago.
The double Olympic champion, who needs one victory to move level with with Swedish legend Ingemar Stenmark's record of 86, will be in action on Friday (10 March) in giant slalom and on Saturday (11 March) in slalom before heading to Soldeu, Andorra, for the World Cup Finals (13-19 March).
Last weekend in Kvitfjell, Norway, the 27-year-old secured her fifth overall World Cup title which puts her only behind Annemarie Moser-Pröll (six) and Marcel Hirscher (seven) in the all-time list for most big crystal globes.
In the Swedish resort Shiffrin has recorded six victories, including two gold medals at the 2019 World championships (one in slalom and one in Super G).
"At the start of the season I didn't think I was coming close to this 86 number so my goal was the overall globe," the seven-time world champion said after her last race.
"To be here now and to have the overall globe secured, the slalom (title) secured, actually to be this close to this record everybody is talking about, it has been an unbelievable season, I'm so thankful for it. So I'm just going to keep pushing for the final races, but I'm really excited about the position I'm in and the final thing for me is having a really strong performance in GS in these final two races and maybe I can hang on to the title there."
