The 32nd SEA Games take place from 5-17 May 2023 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and Singapore will be competing with a contingent of 558 athletes.

Singapore has participated in every edition of the biennial regional multi-sport event since the inaugural edition in 1959 and will be competing for the 32nd time.

How many times has Singapore taken part in Southeast Asian Games?

Cambodia 2023 is the 32nd edition of the SEA Games and Singapore has competed in all 32.

Originally called the Southeast Asian Peninsular Games, the Games were founded in 1959 by the nations now known as Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Thailand and Vietnam. However, Cambodia did not participate in the inaugural Games in December that year, being replaced by Singapore.

Since 2011, 11 nations compete in the SEA Games, which including Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Timor-Leste.

Singapore has hosted the SEA Games four times to date, and is due to welcome the 2029 edition.

What’s Singapore's best medal tally at the Southeast Asian Games?

Unsurprisingly, Singapore's best performance at the SEA Games came when the city-state hosted the 2015 event.

That year, Singapore won 84 golds and 259 total medals, with only Thailand clinching more gold medals that year.

Singapore has won 994 gold medals in the 31 editions of the SEA Games to date.

What was Singapore's medal tally at the 31st SEA Games?

The 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam took place from 12 to 23 May 2022.

Singapore sent 424 athletes to Hanoi 2021 and won 164 medals, 47 of them gold.

Swimming was Singapore's best sport last year, as Team Singapore returned 44 medals – 21 gold – from the pool.
