After an absence of six years, cricket will feature in the Southeast Asian Games programme.
The sport will be a big part of the Southeast Asian Games 2023, scheduled from May 5 to 17 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, with 24 medals on offer.
The cricket programme at SEA Games 2023 will feature eight separate events, four for men and as many for women. Cricket in four formats - 50 overs, T20, T10 and 6s (six-a-side) - will be played.
The 20-over tournaments will have full T20 International status with ranking points on offer. The cricket matches will start on April 29, ahead of the official opening ceremony on May 5.
All cricket matches in the 2023 SEA Games will be played at the AZ Group Cricket Oval in Phnom Penh.
Cricket was introduced at the SEA Games in 2017. Singapore claimed the men’s T20 gold medal while Malaysia and Thailand won the men’s 50 overs and women’s T20 crowns, respectively, in Kuala Lumpur. The sport, however, was dropped from the 2019 and 2021 editions.
