Southeast Asia is about to put on a show with the SEA Games 2023 taking place from 5-17 May in Cambodia.

Phlippines are sending 860 athletes to the 32nd edition of the Southeast Asian Games at the first-time hosts, having joined the biennial multi-sport competition in 1977.

How many times has Philippines taken part in Southeast Asian Games?

Cambodia 2023 is the 32nd edition of the SEA Games and Philippines have competed in 23.

Originally called the Southeast Asian Peninsular Games, the tournament was founded in 1959 by the nations now known as Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Thailand and Vietnam.

The 1977 edition in Kuala Lumpur was the first known as the Southeast Asian Games, and the point at which Philippines joined.

Since 2011, 11 nations compete at the SEA Games, which also include Brunei Darussalam, Timor-Leste, Indonesia and Singapore.

What’s Philippine's biggest medal tally at the Southeast Asian Games?

The 2019 edition of the SEA Games, which Philippines hosted, was their most successful venture, securing 387 medals from the 1,115 athletes who competed for the home nation.

Having appeared at the Games at every edition since 1977, Philippines has come out on top of the medal table twice – in 2005 and 2019.

The four-time hosts also sit fifth in the all-time medal table with 3,968 medals including 1,122 gold.

What was Philippine’s medal tally at Southeast Asian Games 2021?

The 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam took place from 12 to 23 May 2022 with the Philippines contingent consisting of 656 athletes.

Team Philippines won 52 gold medals, 70 silver and 105 bronze for a total of 227 medals at Hanoi 2021.

Carlos Yulo secured seven medals last time out, five of them gold, but in Cambodia gymnasts are restricted to four events – and only the men's edition is on the programme. The six-time world medallist – twice a world champion – will be competing in the team event, the individual all-around, and will be aiming to qualify for the parallel bars and high bar finals.

The host broadcaster in Cambodia is Cambodia Sports Television (CSTV).

The SEA Games in Singapore will be available to watch on their dedicated mewatch channels.

In Thailand, SEA Games coverage is via the TV Pool 3HD, 5HD, 7HD, MCOT HD, NBT2HD, GMM25, PPTV HD and T Sports.
