The 18th edition of football's AFC Asian Cup in Qatar is promising lots of exciting action.

Malaysia is making its fourth appearance in the tournament and its first since co-hosting in 2007.

Harimau Malaya will hope for better fortune this time round after scoring just once and conceding 12 times in that competition.

Under head coach Kim Pan-gon, Malaysia sealed their place in the 2023 finals with a 4-1 win at home to Bangladesh which saw them take second place in qualifying group E behind Bahrain.

Kim has a mostly home-based squad although captain Dion Cools plays his club football for Buriram United in Thailand having spent most of his career at Belgian sides OH Leuven and Club Brugge.

Selangor's Faisal Halim, also known as 'Mickey', has scored 14 goals in 29 national team appearances and the speedy forward carries the side's greatest attacking threat.

Malaysia are in Group E alongside Kim's homeland Republic of Korea - captained by star forward Son Heung-min - Jordan and qualifying group rivals Bahrain.
