Biography

Born in Chuncheon in 1992, Son Heungmin left his home country for Germany having impressed in FC Seoul's youth set-up. In 2010, at 18, he scored on his Bundesliga debut for Hamburg SV against 1. FC Köln.

Over three seasons, the Korean scored 20 goals in 78 appearances for Hamburg before joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2013. At the BayArena, the striker contributed 29 goals in 87 appearances, helping the team qualify for the Champions League.

The English Premier League beckoned in the summer of 2015 when Tottenham Hotspur secured his services. He scored two goals on his home debut, leading the Spurs to a 3-1 win over Qarabag in the Europa League. In his first season with the team, he tallied eight goals in 40 appearances.

FIFA Puskas award and Spurs captaincy

Over the years, Son forged a hugely successful partnership with England captain Harry Kane and regularly exceeded 20 goals in all competitions per season. In November 2017, he became the most prolifiic Asian goalscorer in Premier League history.
