The 32nd SEA Games take place from 5-17 May 2023 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and Indonesia will be taking part with a contingent of 599 athletes.

Indonesia has participated in every edition of the biennial regional multi-sport event since 1977, joining the Games Federation that year 18 years after the inaugural edition in 1959.

How many times has Indonesia taken part in Southeast Asian Games?

Cambodia 2023 is the 32nd edition of the SEA Games and Indonesia has competed in 24 of those events, including in 2023.

Originally called the Southeast Asian Peninsular Games, the Games were founded in 1959 by the nations now known as Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Thailand and Vietnam. However, Indonesia only joined when the group of countries expanded in 1977.

Since 2011, 11 nations compete in the SEA Games, which includes Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Singapore, and Timor-Leste.

Indonesia also has hosted the SEA Games four times to date, most recently in 2011.

What’s Indonesia's best medal tally at the Southeast Asian Games?

Indonesia is one of the Games' powerhouses and has topped the medal tally 10 times.

The team's best performance came at their home Jakarta-Palembang 2011 Games, when they won 476 medals including 182 golds.

That was not their best haul of gold medals, however, which was 194 at the 1997 Games, also in Jakarta.

Indonesia has won 1893 gold medals in the 23 editions of the SEA Games at which it has participated to date.

What was Indonesia's medal tally at the 31st SEA Games?

The 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam took place from 12 to 23 May 2022.

Indonesia sent 499 athletes to Hanoi 2021 and won 241 medals, 69 of them gold.
