Emma McKeon could win seven swimming medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK.

It's the same amount that the Australian took home from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which included golds in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 4x100 women's freestyle relay, and the 4x100 women's medley relay.

That astonishing performance saw McKeon equal the most medals won by a woman in a single Olympic Games, and also become her nation’s most decorated Olympian ever.

The 28-year-old skipped this season's World Championships in order to focus on the Commonwealth Games, but it will be anything but easy for McKeon in Birmingham due to the emergence of some new star talent.

In her absence, compatriot Mollie O'Callaghan won the 100 freestyle world title in Budapest, so expect fireworks from their clashes over 50 and 100 freestyle races.

In the women's 50 and 100 butterfly, Canadian 100 Olympic and Commonwealth champion Maggie Mac Neil will be looking to lay down a marker after deciding not to compete in the individual events at Worlds.

But with relatively little competition time under their belts in 2022, both Macs will be wary of another two Australians.

Holly Barratt has set the fastest 50 fly time in the world this year, while Alexandria Perkins is also in the form of her life.
