The Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) are fast approaching, and there is plenty to be excited about.

For starters, the Winter YOG will be hosted in Asia for the first time with record numbers of athletes set to compete in the Republic of Korea.

Below, we answer the most asked questions about the dates, locations, and athletes involved in the event.

When are the next Winter Youth Olympic Games?

The Gangwon 2024 Opening Ceremony will take place on 19 January 2024, and the Closing Ceremony is on 1 February 2024.

Where are the next Winter Youth Olympic Games taking place?

The Games will take place in the province of Gangwon, in the Republic of Korea.

Within that province, two cities will play host to the majority of events.

In PyeongChang, which hosted the 2018 Winter Olympics, ski jumping and Nordic combined will be staged at the Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre, while biathlon, cross-country skiing, and the sliding sports of luge, bobsleigh, and skeleton will also take place in the Alpensia Sports Park.

The nearby coastal Gangneung Olympic Park will have four indoor sports venues, including the Hockey Centre, Curling Centre, the Gangneung Oval for speed skating, and the Ice Arena for short track speed skating and figure skating.

There will also be two standalone venues: Snowboarding big air will be staged at Welli Hilli Ski Resort, while alpine skiing will be hosted in Jeongseon High 1 Ski Resort.

How many athletes are participating in the Winter Youth Olympic Games?

A record 1,900 athletes will take part in the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympics, up from 1,788 at Lausanne 2020.

As with the previous Games, there will be a 50/50 split between male and female competitors.
