Defending champions Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson are leading a strong Jamaican team for the upcoming World Athletics Championships (19 - 27 August) in Budapest.

Five-time Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah has been named to the 4x100m relay squad while world leader Rasheed Broadbell and Olympic champion Hansle Parchment have both been selected for the men's 110m hurdles.

National champion Rohan Watson, Oblique Seville and Ryiem Ford are headlining Jamaica's squad in the men's sprint. World U20 triple jump record holder Jayden Hibbert also features.

The island nation is hoping to improve on its strong performance at last year's world championships in Eugene where the team collected two gold and seven silver medals as well as one bronze.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, seeking her sixth 100m world title, has been dealing with a knee injury that has limited her appearances so far this year. The 10-time world gold medallist opened her season on 9 July in the 200m at the Jamaican Track and Field Championships in Kingston where Jackson won the sprint double in convincing fashion.

The defending 200m world champion is keen on repeating the golden double in Budapest. She is also the 2023 world leader with a time of 10.65 but both Fraser-Pryce and Jackson are likely to face a stiff challenge from U.S. star Sha'Carri Richardson who has been tearing it up so far this season.
