Hanyu Yuzuru returns to the ice rink this weekend in Japan with the third installment of his self-produced solo shows - titled ‘RE_PRAY’.
Throughout his career, the two-time Olympic men’s figure skating gold medallist has made no secret of his love for gaming, which is the underlying theme for RE_PRAY set to open on Saturday (4 November 2023) at the Tokyo 2020 venue Saitama Super Arena, and runs through February 2024 with stops in Saga and Yokohama.
Hanyu reunites with esteemed director-choreographer Mikiko, who he partnered with back in February for ‘Gift’ - his second solo act performed before a sellout crowd of 35,000 at Tokyo Dome. 'Prologue' was the first, held in November last year, four months after Hanyu retired from competition.
Always playing his cards close to his chest, Hanyu has dropped few if any hints as to what RE_PRAY is about other than that it is driven by his passion for computer games. But if his previous shows are of any indication, it will likely be unpredictable - and extravagant.
