As 2023 comes to a close, the search engine Google has revealed which sports stars and teams have topped the world’s searches for 2023.

American Football star Damar Hamlin, who hit global headlines after collapsing on the field during a game in January, topped the list of most searched athletes for 2023.

Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest but remarkably returned to the field in October following a full recovery.

French striker Kylian Mbappé, who is expected to play at Paris 2024 next summer, features after speculation swirled that he might leave his club, Paris Saint Germain, for Real Madrid or Saudi Arabia.

Joining him is England’s Harry Kane who came in fifth following some impressive results at his latest club, Bayern Munich.

Tennis pair Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz took sixth and seventh in the list respectively while basketball duo Ja Morant and Kyrie Irving clinched fourth and tenth.

Two cricketers caught the eye of the world in 2023 thanks to the Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra rode a wave of speculation after averaging over 64 runs a game at the showpiece event. At the same time, India’s Shubman Gill made the cut at number nine following his starring role in leading his country to the World Cup final.
