Daily Routine: Five things to do - 16 April 2020
Olympic Channel looks at five things you can do to stay active and entertained today, including laughing, home workouts, and a Dream Team revisit
In today’s Daily Routine we have found inspiration from around the internet, to keep you active and entertained in isolation.
From reading, to exercising, and even just listening, the coronavirus outbreak has provided an opportunity for individuals to grow in unexpected ways.
We here at Olympic Channel are sharing inspiring and emotional moments to help us all stay safe, strong and healthy.
Here are five things for today.
- Laugh
Laughter is the best medicine they say, and Kiwi boxer Joseph Parker has us creased over with this latest video:
Parker's path to WBO heavyweight champion of the world started at the Youth Olympics in Singapore 2010 where he won a silver medal.
Now he's in lockdown at home with a pro filmmaker and editor Kerry Russell which doesn't hurt the quality of your social media posts.
- Home Workouts
Nikita Nagorrny's hoodie workout
No gym? No worries.
Yesterday diving star Tom Daley showed us that with just a normal chair you can get that workout in, and today Russian gymnast Nikita Nagornyy only needs a single piece of clothing.
Hoodini?
We've been showcasing the top home workouts on this special page every day, as we encourage everyone to #StayHealthy, #StayStrong, and #StayActive.
Here's another...
- 20 min workout
Looking for something a little longer?
Tom Daley has also done this 20 minute workout that's sure to get that heart rate up.
- Contribute
He raised $15 million with a garden walk
But you don't have to be an Olympian to stay active.
British war veteran Captain Tom Moore will be 100 years young on April 30th, and has achieved something extraordinary in his own back yard.
Moore set out to raise £1000 for Britain's health service - the NHS - by doing 100 walking laps of his garden over 10 days.
By the end people had donated more than £12m or $15m.
“I think that’s absolutely enormous," Moore told BBC TV, "at no time when we started off with this exercise did we anticipate we’d get anything near that sort of money."
“It just shows that people have such high regard for matters of our National Health Service and it’s really amazing that people have paid so much money.”
Even Olympic champ Justin Rose had kind words of celebration for Moore's admirable work:
Chloe Kim, Steph Curry, Simone Biles, Nathan Adrian step up
Plenty of the world's biggest sports stars have been aiding with fund raising for the “Athletes For COVID-19 Relief”
Simone Biles donated a leotard, Michael Phelps a “game worn” suit cap and goggles, Stephen Curry a signed jersey.
The money raised from the auctions goes to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) COVID-19 Response Fund.
Chloe Kim donated a signed contest snowboard that fetched $17,478, and Tony Hawk raised $5,834 with a signed skateboard.
"Hey guys! Imma be honest everything going on right now is insane and scary as hell," starts Kim's Instagram post.
"Many athletes, including myself have donated items in hopes to raise funds to support preparedness, response and recovery for those affected/first responders."
