The United States launched the Paris 2024 Olympic year and their inaugural CONCACAF W Gold Cup campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of the Dominican Republic on Tuesday (20 February).

Olivia Moultrie struck on either side of half-time to lead USA, who also got goals from Lynn Williams, Jenna Nighswonger and Alex Morgan in the one-sided affair at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Moultrie opened the floodgates in the eighth minute before Williams made it 2-0 on the half-hour.

Moultrie compounded the damage with her second of the evening in the 59th minute, followed by Nighswonger (86) and Morgan, who came off the bench to close the scoring in the third additional minute. Dominican Republic didn’t produce a single shot on target.

The win elevated the hosts to the top of Group A after Argentina and Mexico played to a goal-less draw earlier.

The USA and Dominican Republic met for only the second time, the first since 2012 when the Americans dominated 14-0. The States remain unbeaten now in 80 matches against CONCACAF opposition on home soil.
