Two-time Asian championships bronze-medallist Pranati Nayak will be India’s biggest hope for a medal in artistic gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games 2022 which begins in Birmingham, UK on Thursday. Watch live streaming of gymnastics events.
Pranati Nayak, who made her Olympic bow at Tokyo 2020 last year, has competed in the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and 2018.
She was only part of the team all-around event in 2014, where India finished 11th. In 2018, Pranati Nayak qualified for the individual vault final, where she finished eighth.
The Indian gymnast will come into Birmingham 2022 having bagged a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian championships in June. Pranati Nayak will be joined by 18-year-olds Protisthta Samanta and Ruthuja Nataraj in the women’s events.
India will field a six-member gymnastics team – three men and three women – at CWG 2022.
In the men’s events, India will be represented by former national champion Saif Tamboli, Yogeshwar Singh and Satyajit Mondal.
Yogeshwar Singh, a veteran of three world championships, competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where he finished 14th in the individual all-around event. Satyajit Mondal made his international debut for India in June.
