After carrying the burden of Indian squash for almost two decades, Saurav Ghosal and Joshna Chinappa will be chasing an elusive singles medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

Squash competition starts at the University of Birmingham Hockey and Squash Centre on Friday. Live streaming can be seen in India.

India have bagged only three medals since the introduction of squash in the CWG roster in 1998. Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa earned the gold medal in doubles in 2014 in Glasgow and followed it up with a silver in Gold Coast 2018. Pallikal also won the mixed doubles silver with Ghosal in the same year.

Dipika Pallikal, who returned to the sport after motherhood earlier this year, will compete only in the doubles category in Birmingham. She is high on confidence after clinching the mixed doubles title with Saurav Ghosal at the World Doubles Championship in April.

Fourteen-year-old Anahat Singh has already turned a few heads for being the youngest member of the Indian contingent at the CWG. She will be vying for a medal in the singles category. The teenager, who emerged champion at the Under-15 Asian Junior Squash Championship in June, will pair up with Sunayna Kuruvilla in the doubles. The Delhi-based squash player is the only Indian girl to win the US Junior Open in any category.

World No. 2 Paul Coll of New Zealand and No. 7 Joel Makin of Wales will add competitive edge to the singles competition featuring Ghosal, ranked 15th and seeded third in the tournament.
