Lee Zii Jia and Team Malaysia are back on the badminton court next week, when the world mixed team championships – the BWF Sudirman Cup 2023 – take place in Suzhou, People's Republic of China from 14–21 May.

The world number 8 Lee will be hoping for the perfect bounce back after an underwhelming Badminton Asia Championships in Dubai saw the defending Asian title-holder crash out at the first hurdle, the third seed losing to Ng Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong China.

However, for a change Lee is just one part of a bigger team picture in Suzhou. Teammates such as Ng Tze Yong, Aaron Chia / Soh Wooi Yik, Ong Yew Sin / Teo Ee Yi, Pearly Tan / Thinaah Muralitharan, Goh Soon Huat / Shevon Jemie Lai and Tan Kian Meng / Lai Pei Jing must all also contribute if Malaysia are to taste success.

Malaysia have been drawn in Group C, which appears to be the "Group of Death" in Suzhou, with Chinese Taipei and India also part of the group completed by Australia.

India will be fancying their chances, with half their squad having lifted the men's team world title – the Thomas Cup – last year. Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy, and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy / Chirag Shetty are among the men's names who will join forces with the likes of PV Sindhu to mount the Indian challenge.

And Chinese Taipei have their usual reliable singles stars Chou Tien-chen and Tai Tzu-ying to put points on the board where required.

Malaysia will need to finish in the top two of their group to qualify for the last eight, which will almost certainly require the team to win at least two of its ties.

When do Lee Zii Jia and Team Malaysia play at the Sudirman Cup 2023?
