Biography

Kidambi Srikanth is one of the finest badminton players India has produced; having reached the No. 1 one spot in the world rankings as well as becoming the first Indian man to win a silver medal at the World Championships.

Kidambi reached the final of the men’s singles event at the 2021 Badminton World Championships and is also the only Indian to win the men's title in a Super Series Premier event on the BWF Tour.

Born on February 7, 1993, at Ravulapalem in Andhra Pradesh, Srikanth Kidambi started playing badminton in 2001 at Guntur after watching his elder brother.

However, his talent only came to the fore after he joined the Pullela Gopichand Academy, where Srikanth was encouraged to play singles instead of doubles

It was in 2014 that the shuttler announced his arrival into the elite of the badminton world. The Indian conjured a shock win against two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan in the final of the China Open to become the first Indian to win a Super Series Premier men's title.

The pair would renew rivalries two years later at Rio 2016.
