Team USA is one step closer to heading back to the Olympic Summer Games.

The U.S. men rallied from a double-digit deficit at halftime to beat Uruguay on Thursday night (23 February) in Montevideo, 88-77, a win that secured them a place in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup in August.

Langston Galloway scored 21 points to lead the Americans, who trailed 18-7 after the first quarter. Xavier Moon added 17.

Team USA is four-time reigning Olympic champions in men's basketball. The World Cup doubles up as a qualifier for Paris 2024.

The U.S. faces Brazil on Sunday (26 February) in what is the sixth and final window of World Cup Qualifiers. Team USA needed a win over Uruguay or Brazil to secure its spot at the World Cup, which is set to be jointly hosted by Japan, Indonesia and Philippines beginning in late August.

Sunday's game against Brazil is set for Santa Cruz do Sul on Sunday at 21:10 local (19:10 Eastern U.S.).
