Malaysia’s diving queen Pandelela Rinong Pamg will be looking to get back on track at the Asian Games 2023 after a difficult season.

The diver became a household name when she became the first female Malaysian in the sport to win an Olympic medal, claiming bronze at London 2012 and silver at Rio 2016.

But the seven-time World Championship medallist missed out on the individual 10m platform semi-finals at July’s World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, having suffered from both illness and injury.

30-year-old Pandelela wrote on Facebook that “despite the setback, I will keep showing up and never give up” following the result in Japan, where she finished 24th.

The first chance to get back to medal-winning ways at the Asian Games is on Saturday 30 September, where she is participating in the women's synchronised 10m platform with 24-year-old Nur Dhabitah Sabri.

Three days later, Pandelela is competing in the women's individual 10m platform event.
