The Philippines missed out on automatic qualification for the men's basketball quarter-finals at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou after going down 87-62 to Jordan on Saturday (30 September).
Both teams had won two games out of two before this encounter inside the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre with the winners sealing top spot in Group C to consign the losers to a quarter-final qualification playoff.
After going out into an early 13-6 lead, the Gilas conceded 10 points without reply as Jordan took a 16-13 advantage into the first break.
Rondae Jefferson made his presence felt with 11 points in the second period, including a basket just before the buzzer, to send Jordan into half-time 42-29 up.
Three-pointers from Justin Brownlee and Jaymar Perez helped the Gilas draw level late in the third, but some untimely fouls allowed Jordan to move ahead before they pulled clear in the final quarter to seal their spot in the quarter-finals.
Brownlee top-scored for the Philippines with 24 points despite making just eight out of 22 shots from the field. Scottie Thompson had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
For Jordan, Jefferson led the way with 24 points, nine assists and six rebounds with Fadi Mustafa scoring 17 points, and Ahmad Al Dwairi posting 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Philippines now face Qatar on Monday with the victors going through to face Group A table-toppers Islamic Republic of Iran the following day.
