When could Mikaela Shiffrin move clear of fellow American Lindsey Vonn's record as the most successful women's alpine skier in World Cup racing?

Tuesday (10 January) is the double Olympic champion's first chance. She goes to Flachau, Austria, for the famous night slalom race, trying to break Vonn's mark and with just Ingemar Stenmark (86) ahead of her after clinching an 82nd career victory on Sunday at the giant slalom race in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

On the Flachau track named after Austrian legend Hermann Maier, Shiffrin has competed nine times, stepping on the podium in eight occasions for a total of four wins (the last one in January 2021).

The 27-year-old tops the overall World Cup standings with 1,115 points, a whopping 419 points ahead of Petra Vlhova.

This season, Shiffrin is seeking a fifth overall crown which would put her second on the all-time winner's list behind Austria's Annemarie Moser-Pröll who has six titles to her name.
