Lara Gut-Behrami clinched her first Super G victory of the 2023/24 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup season at Altenmarkt-Zauchensee on Sunday (14 January).
After two giant slalom triumphs this season, this was the reigning Olympic Super G champion's 40th World Cup win and her 20th in her favourite discipline. Her first success at the Austrian resort came back in 2011.
Afterwards, she told FIS, "It's amazing. I'm proud to be winning here again after 13 years in Super G. To be able to be that consistent during those years is unbelievable.
"I'm enjoying what I'm doing. I know that I'm still here just because I want to be. I have days where I would like to quit - I'd love to go home to have a family and have other things. Other days, I'm like, 'I will do that in a few more years because I really like that.' It's a struggle sometimes. When I'm skiing I'm just trying to do the best that I can.
"I'm super happy about my GS skiing right now. I have a lot of confidence there. In speed, something was missing. These days on this hill have helped me a lot. I can push myself forward and today, finally, I was able to show what I can do."
The Swiss star skied the bottom half of the course strongly to win by a quarter of a second from Austria's Cornelia Huetter who won Friday's Super G.
Another Austrian, local favourite Mirjam Puchner, was one-hundredth back as she secured her second third-place finish in as many days.
Saturday's downhill winner Sofia Goggia was eighth, just under half a second off the pace. She was beaten by fellow Italian Roberta Melesi who took advantage of a following wind at the top of the course to clinch her first World Cup top-10 finish in sixth.
Another of the late starters to profit from the improving conditions was USA's Lauren Macuga who took a career-best 10th place.
With Mikaela Shiffrin absent as she recovers from a cold, Federica Brignone closed the gap on her in the World Cup overall standings to 142 points after finishing in 11th place.
Gut-Behrami is up to third, a further 38 points back, and trails Huetter by 90 points in the Super G standings.
