Cornelia Huetter delighted the home crowd by taking victory in the Altenmarkt-Zauchensee Super G in Austria on Friday (12 January).

The 31-year-old was quick at the top and easily the fastest skier on the bottom section as she clocked 1:13.17 to go top of the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup Super G standings.

It was Huetter's fourth World Cup Super G triumph and her fifth in total.

Second went to Norway's Kajsa Vickhoff Lie who skied the middle of the course better than anyone, but hit a gate entering the final series of turns and ended up nine-hundredths behind the Austrian.

Lara Gut-Behrami was third ahead of last month's Val d'Isere winner Federica Brignone with neither woman unable to find the speed Huetter had in the closing stages.

Sofia Goggia fell on the same turn which almost accounted for Lie as she tried to push on the mid-section of the course. The Italian star - who was wearing the red bib as the Super G series leader - was able to ski down unaided.

The race was delayed when Nadine Fest suffered a heavy crash, slamming into a gate as she realised she was not going to make a turn early on the course.

The Austrian was able to get to back to her feet before being airlifted off the mountain with an apparent left knee injury.

With Mikaela Shiffrin missing as she recovers from a cold, her gap in the overall World Cup standings is down to 182 points with Brignone moving above Petra Vlhova into second place.

Brignone will hope to make further inroads into Shiffrin's lead in Saturday's downhill at Altenmarkt-Zauchensee having been quickest in training.
