Alex Morgan is no stranger to attention. And that is no different outside the United States.

The superstar of the US women's national soccer team (USWNT) seemingly created a stir the moment she arrived in Mexico for the 2022 CONCACAF W Championships.

Every where she went, the two-time World Cup winner was embraced by fans.

There is a lot at stake at the competition in Monterrey. Eight teams are competing for four spots in the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand with the tournament winner automatically qualifying for the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.

The USWNT, Olympic champion Canada and host Mexico are favoured to win it.

USWNT team boss Vlatko Andonovski is counting on Morgan (San Diego Wave), Megan Rapinoe (OL Reign) and Becky Sauerbrunn to lead the 23-player roster into a new era. Only ten players have been involved in Olympic or World Cup qualifying matches before.

And he is counting on Morgan's goals.

Morgan, who turned 33 on Saturday (2 July), has been in red-hot form in the current NWSL season scoring 11 goals in 10 appearances.

Find out how Morgan and Rapinoe are hoping to extend their legacies.
