In the space of a year, Chloe Covell has made the transition from young street skateboarding hopeful to worldbeater.
Australia's Covell has sport in her blood with father Luke playing rugby league for New Zealand. She hails from Tweed Heads in New South Wales, close to the border with Queensland.
At just 12, she started making her name in international competitions and took bronze at X Games Chiba in April 2022.
Guided by fellow Australian Tommy Fynn, and inspired by Nyjah Huston, Covell went one better with silver at Summer X Games in California three months later.
The Gold Coast prodigy carried forward those performances into 2023, just missing out on top spot in Rome in June before becoming the youngest street skateboarding gold medallist in X Games history in Chiba a month later.
Having made her way to the top of the podium, Covell is on track to be one of the favourites at Paris 2024 should she – as seems inevitable – be selected by the Australian National Olympic Committee.
