Seven candidates did compete in the election for the presidency of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the 144th IOC Session held from 18 to 21 March 2025 in Greece. The candidates presented their programmes, in camera, to the full [**IOC membership**](https://olympics.com/ioc/members) on the occasion of a meeting held in Lausanne (Switzerland) on 30 January 2025. Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe was elected as the 10th President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the first female President in IOC history.

### **Clarification following misleading media reports**

We have been made aware of media reports that are misinterpreting the latest letter by the IOC Ethics Commission Chair to all IOC Members.

The [letter](https://stillmed.olympics.com/media/Documents/International-Olympic-Committee/president-election/2024-09-09-Letter-Ban-Ki-moon-to-IOC-Members-English.pdf) clarifies the existing rules as per the [Olympic Charter](https://stillmed.olympics.com/media/Document%20Library/OlympicOrg/General/EN-Olympic-Charter.pdf#page=3), which have applied, and continue to apply, to everyone in the IOC membership. There are no new rules, contrary to what has been reported.

If the IOC membership of a candidate lapses before the end of their presidential term, this term would cease when their IOC membership finishes.

The points were already addressed during both the [IOC Session in Mumbai in 2023](https://olympics.com/ioc/141st-ioc-session) and the [IOC Session in Paris in 2024](https://olympics.com/ioc/142nd-ioc-session).

The candidature documents of the candidates for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) presidential election to be held at the 144th IOC Session, in Greece, which were received before the deadline, are now available on ioc.org.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Ethics Commission has published the candidates presentation and voting regulations for the election of the next IOC President after their approval by the IOC Executive Board.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Ethics Commission arranged a drawing of lots to determine the order in which the seven candidates vying for the IOC presidency will present their programmes to the IOC members. The presentations will take place during an in camera meeting of the IOC membership, scheduled for 30 January 2025 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) membership will meet on 30 January 2025 at Olympic House, Lausanne, for the presentation by the candidates for the IOC presidency and an Extraordinary IOC Session. This was announced following the remote meeting of the IOC Executive Board (EB) held earlier this week.
