Paris 2024 Marathon Pour Tous

Paris 2024 promised to revolutionise the Olympic and Paralympic Games experience for the public. Many people shared a dream that is now a reality: with the Paris 2024 Mass Participation Marathon, amateur athletes will be able to run the Olympic marathon route at night, enabling as many people as possible to follow in the footsteps of outstanding athletes. This will be an extraordinary experience, on a unique and original route, celebrating the heritage and history of the Paris region and the whole of France.

Providing people in France with an outstanding Games experience has always been Paris 2024’s ambition. The Mass Participation Marathon fulfills this promise by offering opportunities for as many people as possible to get close to the heart of the Games adventure, following in the footsteps of the Olympic athletes on the same route as the Olympic marathon event. For the first time in history, running events open to the public will be organised, with a full marathon and a 10km race. They will be run by night, ensuring the best running conditions for all runners. Like the Olympic Games, the Mass Participation Marathon is committed to ensuring gender parity, with Paris 2024 looking to award the same number of race entries to both men and women.

A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE delivered through TWO RACE FORMATS

There will be something for everyone, with two event formats available to people who win a race entry. Both races, for the first time in the history of the Games, will allow participants to have an extraordinary sporting, sensory and emotional experience.

A legendary distance: The marathon

The Mass Participation Marathon will follow the same route as the Olympic marathon for Paris 2024. The aim of the marathon format is to allow members of the public to push their limits and be part of an exceptional moment in which they will follow in the footsteps of Olympic athletes. Open to everyone aged 20 and over, this marathon, which will set out from the Hôtel de Ville at 9pm and finish on the Esplanade des Invalides, will truly be an unforgettable event.

Key details

  • 9pm start on 10 August
  • 42km loop linking Paris and Versailles
  • Starting at the Hôtel de Ville in Paris at 9pm local time
  • Finishing at Les Invalides
  • Passing through nine cities: Paris, Boulogne-Billancourt, Sèvres, Ville d’Avray, Versailles, Viroflay, Chaville, Meudon and Issy-les-Moulineaux
  • 20,024 participants

A marathon full of history

The route for the 42.195km version of the Mass Participation Marathon will be the same as the Olympic marathon, which will pay tribute to a key moment in French history and the French Revolution: the Women’s March on Versailles on 5 October 1789. This march was a revolutionary event in the history of contemporary France that saw several thousand women march on the palace of King Louis XVI in Versailles, forcing him and his family to return to Paris where people were facing starvation. Louis XVI never left Paris again and notably signed the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizens, which he had previously refused to do.

After setting out from the square in front of the Hôtel de Ville (Paris’ city hall), the runners will cross the capital for a spectacular and historic race against a backdrop of the region’s most beautiful monuments before reaching Versailles and then returning to the finishing line on the Esplanade des Invalides.

Second accessible race format open to everyone: The 10k

In addition to the 42km marathon, a shorter, more accessible 10km race will also take place on the evening of 10 August. The 10km route will take in a number of iconic places and monuments at the heart of Paris, with a range of special events and activities organised to enable everyone to enjoy an intense and unforgettable moment in the Parisian night.

This race will be accessible for all profiles—provided they will be aged 16 or over by 31 December 2024—including those with a disability who have specific needs (such as a guide, wheelchair, all-terrain chair, etc.).

Key details

  • 10km at the heart of Paris and its iconic monuments
  • Starting at Paris’ City Hall at 11:30 pm on 10 August
  • Finishing at Les Invalides
  • Race takes place in central Paris
  • 20,024 participants

A magical moment of sport

Taking place just a few hours after the completion of the men’s Olympic marathon, the Mass Participation Marathon will create unforgettable lifelong memories for those who get the opportunity to enjoy the two routes on offer.

Running the Paris 2024 Mass Participation Marathon is about much more than just taking part in a race; it means sharing a unique atmosphere with runners from around the world in an incredible and celebratory setting, just a few hours before the Closing Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games!

On 16 August 2020, with the help and support from my sports club president, I signed up for Club Paris 2024 with a crazy goal to win a race entry and run as far as possible. This was a real challenge for someone who was overweight and used to run very infrequently. Today, I have reached 10,000km, I have lost 26kg, and I really enjoy each time I do some sport!

The Connected Marathon Pour Tous

The Mass Participation Marathon celebration will continue with an experience that is also out of the ordinary. Get ready to take part in the greatest connected race of all time, the Connected Marathon Pour Tous!

Organised in parallel with the Mass Participation Marathon, the Connected Marathon Pour Tous will kick off on Saturday 10 August at 8 am, at the same time as the men’s Olympic Marathon gets underway from the esplanade of the Hôtel de Ville de Paris. It can be done outdoors, using the Marathon pour Tous app, or indoors, using the Kinomap app, to immerse yourself in the official route.

  • You will need to download one of the two official Connected Mass Participation Marathon apps. On each of these apps, runners will have to run for at least 30 minutes for their participation to be taken into account.

    1. The Mass Participation Marathon app: This app will enable participants to take part in the Connected Mass Participation Marathon outdoors using their usual sports activity tracker. More than 200,000 people use it every month, and for years they have been trying to win one of the race numbers for the Mass Participation Marathon. People will be able to use the app for training purposes, and the connected race will take place on this app.
    2. The Kinomap app: This application will enable runners to take part in the Connected Mass Participation Marathon indoors on all machines compatible with Kinomap. The application connects to the runner’s equipment and changes the incline of the treadmill or the resistance of the bike according to the topography. Participants will find themselves immersed in certain sections of the Olympic marathon course. It’s a great way to get involved with the Mass Participation Marathon experience from the comfort of your own home or in a sports hall in France or abroad! On 10 and 11 August 2024, participants in the Connected Mass Participation Marathon will be able to choose between four official videos of the Olympic marathon route:
      • 30 min to discover the iconic monuments
      • 30 minutes to discover sporting anecdotes
      • Run the last 15 km of the Mass Participation Marathon
      • The full 42 km route.

From 31 January 2024, connected challenges will be available on Kinomap to discover routes in preparation for the Marathon Pour Tous Connecté.

It will also be possible to directly take part in Fitness Park gyms, a partner of the Mass Participation Marathon, which will organise whole weekend of free events around the Connected Mass Participation Marathough through its network of 260 locations throughout France.

A competition between countries and rewards on offer!

All the participants in the Connected Mass Participation Marathon will be ranked by country in order to determine which nation will have clocked the most kilometres! Those who participate will be able to win rewards including a very special souvenir of the race, making the experience even more memorable!

Organised group starts

Alone or in a group—the choice is yours! Group starts in the Connected Mass Participation Marathon will be possible in a number of Terre des Jeux 2024 cities through sports associations, 2024 Clubs and Fitness Park facilities, allowing for a real community experience.

  • The Marathon Pour Tous provides a unique opportunity for a diverse audience to share the excitement of the Games, allowing participants to follow in the footsteps of Olympic athletes along the same route as the Olympic marathon.

This historic event features public running competitions, including both a marathon and a 10km course, scheduled to take place at night for optimal race conditions on August 10, 2024.

  • Both races of the Marathon Pour Tous will take place on the evening of August 10, 2024.

  • Just like in the Olympic marathon, spectators are welcome to come and cheer for Marathon Pour Tous participants at no cost along the entire route.
