Instilling sporting values in our children

Sport can be many things—a profession, a passion, a hobby, even a vehicle for learning—but above all else, it is a way of communicating and sharing; a way of learning techniques or tactics, of course, but also a space to agree on a common set of rules, where we form a team in which anyone can earn their spot, where you can learn as much from a defeat as a victory. As Paris 2024 strongly believes that sport is for everyone, it hopes to see the emergence of a Generation 2024 that has been nurtured by sporting values.

A 2024 Generation that thrives in sport

Everyone agrees sport has a positive impact in raising and educating children. To pass on the values of respect, tolerance and cooperation, bringing young people together through sporting competition can often have a more powerful impact than giving a theoretical speech. The journey to Generation 2024 began in 2017 with the Olympic and Paralympic Week, which has already reached more than 5,000 participating schools across France.

Stronger than racism: Jesse Owens and the Games

As part of our Generation 2024 programme, Paris 2024 is providing all teachers with the film Race, as well as its accompanying workbook. This film follows Jesse Owens and his enormous success at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games, providing an ideal opportunity for young people to think about racism, tolerance and respect.

Playdagogy: when games help us understand issues in society

Designed and developed in the early 2000s, “playdagogy” has gained more and more followers each year. This teaching method, based on an active and participative form of education, focuses entirely on playing sports. Its one guiding principle is that people, and children in particular, are not meant to sit around all day. On the contrary, it is by interacting with others and experiencing emotions that we can tackle issues in society including community spirit, health, the environment, diversity, inclusivity and more. Every year, nearly 30,000 people learn to better communicate and have discussions for the future thanks to playdagogy.

Sport: The gateway to civic engagement

At school, sport opens the door to many of the concepts of citizenship, not only through the values it conveys, but also through first-hand experience as part of a group. A sporting community may be made up of a team, or more widely through thousands of clubs that keep the sports movement alive throughout the year. This movement is spurred on by the involvement of more than three million volunteers who form the true cornerstone of the Paris 2024 Games.

Sports clubs are interconnected micro-societies that bring our towns and villages to life, all driven by the same desire to allow everyone to learn, come together and get involved. Paris 2024 strives to inject more sport into civic engagement and more civic engagement into sport!

10,000 Generation 2024 civic service missions every year

Taking part in a civic service mission lets you discover the power of being useful; it lets you meet new people, think about your future and perhaps help you find your calling. In conjunction with the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the French Ministries of National Education, Youth and Sports in charge of Youth and Engagement, the French Civic Service, and the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) have set themselves a goal to provide more than 10,000 volunteers per year with a civic service experience, both in France and abroad!
