Buenos Aires 2018The Medals

The online competition launched by the IOC to design the obverse of the medals for the 2018 edition of the Youth Olympic Games attracted almost 300 entries from around 50 countries. The jury was made up of IOC members and participants from two IOC programmes for the Summer Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018: the Young Reporters and Young Change-Makers.

Muhamad Farid Husen won the competition with his creation entitled “Fireworks of victory”. Aged 18, the young man from Indonesia explained the meaning of his design: “Fireworks representing the excitement and the glory of the Youth Olympic Games, where all nations come together as one to participate and celebrate. Fireworks fly to the sky, giving the reflection of how the young athletes are reaching their dreams.”The reverse of the medal was created by Fermin Igarreta, a 24-year-old member of the Buenos Aires 2018 Organising Committee’s graphic design team. He took the firework design on the obverse and combined it with a typical form of the visual identity of this edition of the YOG, on which the Buenos Aires 2018 emblem is featured.
