Nyjah Huston was close to flawless as he took victory in the latest Paris 2024 qualifying event at WST Lausanne Street 2023 on Saturday (16 September).

The American skateboarding star scored 90.00 on his second run attempt to lead going into the trick section, which he then opened with three 90+ scores for a winning total of 275.94 from his highest-scoring tricks.

Huston's highlight was a nollie heelflip nose blunt side trick which earned him a 93.23.

"I'm super hyped," the American told Olympics.com afterwards. "I've been hungry for another win since the Rome contest. I skated a couple of Street Leagues in the past couple of months and I think I got third in both of them so it feels good to go out there and be on point.

"It is crazy to think that over 200 people come out here to compete. Obviously, the playing field out here is always gnarly; even just to make it into the semi-finals and the finals is insane."

Runner-up Sasaki Toa of Japan impressed with 89.66 in the run before putting down two best trick scores of 90.88 and 89.66 while third-place finisher Giovanni Vianna delighted the crowd with his unique array of tricks.

The Brazilian had only scored once in the trick section going into the final round but rose to the occasion under the weight of expectation, hitting a fakie 270 backside nose blunt side into fakie for a score of 90.00 and third place on 268.06.

Vianna's last-minute heroics overhauled Netsuke Kairi who also delivered when he needed to on his last trick to temporarily move into the podium position ahead of Horigome Yuto.

That was despite Olympic champion Horigome having the highest score of the trick section with his 'Yutornado' - a nollie backside 270 noseslide 270 out - for 96.95.
