The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction was held in Bengaluru on December 15.
Held at the ITC Gardenia, the WPL 2025 auction saw the five WPL teams finetune their respective squads ahead of the new season.
The five cricket teams filled a total of 19 slots, including five for foreign players, at the WPL 2025 mini-auction from a pool of 120 cricketers - 91 Indians and 29 overseas players.
The minimum base price of a player at the WPL 2025 auction was ₹10 lakh while the maximum base price was ₹50 lakh.
Top names in women’s cricket, including West Indian all-rounder Deandra Dottin, England captain Heather Knight and New Zealand fast bowler Lea Tahuhu, were part of the WPL 2025 auction.
Deandra Dottin was acquired by Gujarat Giants for ₹1.70 crore. Simran Shaikh, bought for ₹1.90 crore by Gujarat Giants, was the most expensive player at the WPL 2025 auction.
The 13-year-old left-arm seamer Anshu Nagar was the youngest player at the WPL 2025 auction but went unsold. However, Mumbai Indians shelled out ₹1.60 crore for 16-year-old all-rounder G Kamalini.
Smriti Mandhana, who was acquired by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru during the WPL 2023 auction for ₹3.40 crore, is the most expensive player in the Women’s Premier League. She helped her team win the title in 2024.
Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner and England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt, fetched by Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians, respectively, at the WPL 2023 auction for ₹3.20 crore each, remain the joint-costliest overseas buys in the WPL.

For WPL 2025, each of the five teams had a purse of ₹15 crore to build a squad of 18 players, which could include a maximum of six overseas recruits. Ahead of the auction, teams were allowed to retain their players from the previous season.
While most teams opted to retain their core groups, they also released a few players to free up funds for the auction in order to finetune their squads. The total cost of the retained players was then deducted from the total budget.
Gujarat Giants went into the WPL 2025 auction with the biggest purse of ₹4.4 crore while Delhi Capitals, who finished runners-up in 2023 and 2024, had ₹2.5 crore to spend - the lowest among the five teams.
