WPL 2025 retention: All players retained and released by each team - full list

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) teams officially revealed their WPL 2025 retention list on Thursday.

Across the five WPL teams, 71 players, including 25 overseas stars, were retained.

While all the teams managed to hold on to their core groups, there were a few surprises in store.

Reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who won the trophy last year with Smriti Mandhana as captain, have let go of England skipper Heather Knight.

Mumbai Indians (MI) retained Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur but released Issy Wong, who led MI to the IPL 2023 final with a hat-trick - the first-ever in WPL history - against the UP Warriorz.

Lea Tahuhu and Sneh Rana (Gujarat Giants) and Poonam Yadav (Delhi Capitals) were some of the other high-profile released players.

As per the WPL 2025 rules, each team can have a maximum of 18 players in their squad, including six overseas recruits.

The released players helped teams free up slots and additional budget to strengthen their respective squads during the upcoming WPL 2025 player auction.
