The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 mini-auction is scheduled to take place at the ITC Gardenia in Bengaluru on Sunday.
The WPL 2025 auction will start at 3:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST) and will be available on live streaming and telecast in India.
A total of 120 cricketers are set to go under the hammer at the WPL 2025 player auction. As many as 91 are Indians while 29 are overseas cricketers, including three from associate nations.
However, the five cricket teams will only have 19 slots to fill, including five for foreign players, at the upcoming WPL auction.
For WPL 2025, each of the five teams has a purse of ₹15 crore to build a squad of 18 players, which can include a maximum of six overseas recruits. Ahead of the auction, teams were allowed to retain their players from the previous season.
While most teams opted to retain their core groups, they also released a few players to free up funds for the upcoming auction in order to finetune their squads.
Gujarat Giants will go into the WPL 2025 auction with the biggest purse of ₹4.4 crore while Delhi Capitals, who finished runners-up in 2023 and 2024, will have ₹2.5 crore to spend - the lowest among the five teams.
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, and Mumbai Indians will have to pick up four players each from the pool to complete their respective squads.
UP Warriorz, who have retained 15 players going into the auction, will have three slots to fill.
Unlike the IPL auction, the WPL will not feature the Right-to-Match (RTM) option.
West Indian all-rounder Deandra Dottin, England captain Heather Knight and New Zealand fast bowler Lea Tahuhu will be among the top international stars to look out for at the upcoming WPL auction.
All-rounder Sneh Rana and leg spinner Poonam Yadav headline the list of Indian cricketers on the auction list.
The highest base price for a player is ₹50 lakh with Heather Knight, Deandra Dottin and Lizelle Lee being the only three players in the bracket.
Smriti Mandhana, who was secured for ₹3.40 crore by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru during the WPL 2023 auction, is the most expensive player in the Women’s Premier League.
Delhi's 13-year-old left-arm seamer Anshu Nagar will be the youngest player at the WPL 2025 auction while Australian batter Laura Harris, who was previously part of the DC set-up will be the oldest at 34.
