That’s a possibility after Fred Kerley led an American 1-2-3 in the men’s 100m.

The all-round sprinter will be back for the 200m, where Noah Lyles is looking forward to bagging his second straight world title after Doha 2019.

Stars to watch in the men's 200m at 2022 Track and Field Worlds

What can we expect for the men’s 200m?

A close contest for the medals with the deep field that includes seven men who have run under 20 seconds for this season.

The reigning 200m world champion Lyles is thrilled to be running on home soil, cheered on by his family as he begins his chase for his third world gold. He starts competition at the Hayward field in the men’s 200m heats on Tuesday 18 July - his 25th birthday.

After his senior debut at the Tokyo 2020 Games in 2021, where he just missed the podium in fourth, 18-year-old sprinter Knighton is ready to establish his name amongst the new breed of sprinters. He finished just .02 seconds behind Lyles at he USATF Championships and is still riding high on his world-leading 19.49 seconds from April, that put him on the all-time list behind Usain Bolt.

There is also the 2021 Diamond League winner Bednarek who has maintained his Olympic year shape when he dashed to 13 sub-20 times.

Kerley rounds up the American quartet in the 200m. The newly crowned 100m champion seeks to become the fourth American man after Maurice Greene (Seville 1999), Justin Gatlin (Helsinki 2005), and Tyson Gay (Osaka 2007) to win both sprint medals at the same World Championships.

Besides the Americans, other top contenders include NCAA champion Joseph Fahnbulleh of Liberia known for his fast finish, Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards - the bronze medallist from London 2017, double world and Olympic champion Yohan Blake of Jamaica, and Luxolo Adams of South Africa who has a season best of 19.82. Canada’s Andre De Grasse made a late decision to skip the 200m.
